The Crash Test
When markets crash, your savings don't.
In the worst 5-year stretch on record (2004–2008), a raw $100,000 S&P 500 investment lost ground — ending the period worth less than it started. The CapLock FIA credited 0% in down years and captured gains in the recovery, finishing well ahead while never losing a dollar. That's the power of a 0% floor with locked-in gains.

How Your Outcome Is Defined
Capped upside
When the S&P 500 rises, your account is credited with the full gain up to the 9.35% annual cap. A +20% year still credits 9.35%.
Zero floor
When the S&P 500 falls, your account loses nothing. A −38% year (2008) credits 0% — your balance simply holds steady.
Locked-in gains
Each year's credited gain is locked in permanently. Future market drops can never erase prior gains — the floor resets higher.

Crediting Strategies
The CapLock FIA offers three guaranteed cap rate index strategies. The cap rate is declared once at policy issue and remains locked for your entire surrender charge period — no annual re-declarations, no mid-term adjustments. This calculator models the S&P 500 Annual Point-to-Point strategy.
Annual point-to-point with cap rate guarantee. The most widely tracked U.S. large-cap index.
Annual point-to-point with cap rate guarantee. Tracks 100 of the largest non-financial Nasdaq companies.
Annual point-to-point with cap rate guarantee. Measures U.S. small-cap stock performance.
Cap Rate Guarantee Funds are only available at the time of application. Once you reallocate out of a Cap Rate Guarantee Fund, you cannot reallocate back into any of the Guarantee Funds.
CapLock FIA — Common Questions
What is defined outcome investing?
Defined outcome investing means you know your worst-case and best-case returns before you invest. With the CapLock FIA, your worst year is 0% (the floor) and your best year is 9.35% (the cap). Unlike a raw stock investment where the outcome is unknown, a defined outcome product puts boundaries on your risk.
What does 'CapLock' mean?
CapLock means the 9.35% annual cap is guaranteed not to decrease for the life of the contract. Most indexed annuities can lower the cap at each renewal — CapLock removes that uncertainty.
What happens in a market crash?
Your account value does not go down. The 0% floor means the worst a down year can credit is 0% — you keep your full balance and all prior locked-in gains.
Why does the FIA sometimes beat the raw S&P 500?
In the worst 5-year window, the S&P 500 lost ground across a crash while the FIA credited 0% in down years and positive gains in up years — so the FIA can finish ahead when the index is volatile and flat.
Are these results guaranteed?
No. The scenarios above are historical backtests using real S&P 500 calendar-year price returns with a 9.35% cap and 0% floor applied annually. Future S&P 500 returns are unknown, and actual crediting may differ by contract terms.

Important Disclosures: This calculator is an educational tool using historical S&P 500 calendar-year price returns from 1988–2024 (no dividends). Results are backtests, not projections or guarantees of future performance. The "win rate" and "defined outcome range" are derived from historical data and do not predict future results. The CapLock FIA is a 5-year product issued by Oceanview Life and Annuity; guarantees are backed solely by the claims-paying ability of the issuing carrier. Annuities are not FDIC insured, are not bank deposits, and may be subject to surrender charges for early withdrawals. The 9.35% cap and 0% floor define the annual crediting range — actual credited returns depend on index performance and may be lower than the cap. Product terms, caps, and availability vary by state.
