Projections

Where the money you directed lands

Built from the months you sent to each destination — a month pointed at debt is not also counted as invested, and once the debt clears, what you had pointed at it keeps working as savings.

$6,286 directed here over 12 months

Direct it to investing

A long-term assumption for a diversified portfolio, not a promised return.

The $6,286 you send here over the next 12 months, put to work as it arrives, becomes $6,554 — $6,286 from you and $267 earned.

Markets do not move in a straight line — this is a planning assumption, not a guarantee. Months that carry a third paycheck send more, and the same 12-month pattern repeats after year one.

From paycheck to a month-by-month plan

A paycheck tells you what arrives; a monthly plan tells you what is left over. Here's how the planner turns one into the other.

Start with net pay. The planner runs your salary through the same 2026 federal brackets, FICA, state tax and deductions as the paycheck calculator, then spreads the net amount across the actual paydays in each month.

Watch the three-paycheck months. Bi-weekly pay means 26 paychecks a year. Two months receive a third paycheck, and those months usually carry your largest surplus. Naming them in advance is how you put that money to work instead of absorbing it into spending.

Line items, by month. Recurring costs spread evenly across the year. One-month items — an annual premium, tuition, a big purchase — land in the month they're due, which is often what turns a comfortable average into a tight month.

Then give the bottom line a job. Money that isn't assigned tends to disappear. Investing, paying down debt, saving, and funding a purchase are the four most common destinations — the planner shows what each one does with the same monthly amount.

Common Questions

How many paychecks do I get in a month?

If you're paid every two weeks you get 26 paychecks a year, so most months carry two and two months carry three. The planner dates every future payday from your last pay date, highlights the three-paycheck months, and adds that extra paycheck to your inflow for that month.

What should a monthly line item include?

Anything that leaves your account: housing, groceries, transportation, utilities, insurance, healthcare, minimum debt payments, subscriptions, and personal spending. Add items that land in a single month as their own line — annual premiums, property tax, tuition, or a large purchase — so the month that carries them shows its true bottom line.

Should I pay down debt or invest my bottom line?

Compare the guaranteed saving to the expected return. Paying off a balance at 20% APR saves you 20% with certainty, which most investments can't promise. Once high-rate debt is gone and you have 3 to 6 months of expenses set aside, investing for the long term usually makes more sense. The planner lets you run each scenario side by side with your own numbers.

How should I plan for a purchase?

Divide the amount by the number of months you have, then compare that required monthly figure to your bottom line. If it's covered, the purchase is on track; if not, the planner shows the gap so you can stretch the timeline, trim an outflow, or split the bottom line between the purchase and savings.

Does this planner store my data?

No. It's a calculator — everything runs in your browser and nothing is saved. If you want to log and track actual spending over time, sign in and use the Budget Tracker.
